Elon Musk, founder and CEO of Telsa and SpaceX ; “We want to make a real difference. Carbon negativity, not neutrality. The ultimate goal is a scalable carbon emissions that is measured on the basis of the “cost per ton that takes everything into account” that includes the impact on the environment. This is not a theoretical competition, we want teams to build real systems that can bring about measurable change and grow to the level of gigatons. This will require what is required. Time matters, ”

Teams can submit natural, engineering and hybrid solutions. The judges of the competition will evaluate the teams according to four basic criteria:

  1. A working prototype of carbon removal that can be meticulously verified that it can eliminate at least one tonne a day.
  2. The team’s ability to prove to judges that its solution can be cost-effectively increased to a gigabyte level.
  3. The main metric in this competition is cost per ton that takes into account everything, including any necessary consideration of environmental benefit, persistence, and any value-added products.
  4. The last criterion is the length of time the carbon will be locked. A minimum target of 100 years is desirable.
